Introduction …

As part of ME Awareness 2021, I am fundraising for The ME Trust UK by taking up one of their challenges.

I am going to read 10 books in 10 months and will review each one once I’ve finished it. Below you will find the review for one of the ten books that I read as part of this challenge.

Why …

I have been sick since 1984. It took till 2001 for doctors to diagnose me with ME. Initially, I was mildly sick then moderately but in recent years I’ve progressed to being severely affected. I am housebound and often bedbound for months on end.

I really want to raise awareness and to raise money to help research #endME.

I am planning on reading ten books in ten months starting 12th May, which is international ME Awareness Day. At one time in my life I could have read ten books in ten days. But this challenge will be hard for me to do.

So please please if you can support me and help raise money for the ME Trust UK

Blue by Danielle Steel …

Danielle Steel is one of the world’s most popular and highly acclaimed authors, with over ninety international bestselling novels in print and more than 600 million copies of her novels sold. She is also the author of His Bright Light, the story of her son Nick Traina’s life and death; A Gift of Hope, a memoir of her work with the homeless; and Pure Joy, about the dogs she and her family have loved.

Book Synopsis … (taken from book cover, can be skipped ↴)

Blue by Danielle Steel ...

Ginny Carter was once a rising star in TV news, married with a young son – until her whole world dissolved on a freeway in a single instant. In the aftermath, she somehow pieces her life back together, but struggles to truly find meaning in her life.

Then, on the anniversary of the fateful accident, she meets thirteen-year-old Blue Williams, who has been living on the streets, utterly alone. Ginny reaches out to him and slowly their friendship grows, each becoming the family the other lost.

But just as Blue is truly beginning to trust her, she learns he has been hiding a shocking secret. Ginny wonders if she can help Blue to feel whole again, and at the same time heal herself.

Blue is an emotionally gripping story of dark secrets revealed, second chances, and the power of love and courage to overcome life’s greatest challenges.

Book Genre …

Blue falls into the Fiction, Romance, Saga, genres.

About The Book …

See above in the synopsis for additional information.

As well as the kindle edition I bought the audible version just in case I wasn’t well enough to actually read the book.

The kindle edition has 338 pages and at my reading speed a suggested reading time of 4 hours 37 minutes.

On audible it has a listening time of 8 hours 2 minutes. It is narrated by: Alexander Cendese who reads well, at first I didn’t gel with the reader but after getting into the story I started again and really liked the way they read.

Ginny is grieving and needs to atone her guild through helping and love of others. Blue is grieving and simply needs love and care. By chance they meet and what happens next is uplifting yet heartbreaking all at the same time. I really don’t want to spoil this for you and so it’s enough for me to say it’s a wonderful story and I am sure you will enjoy it.

Why I Chose This  Book …

I chose the book because, firstly I like Danielle Steel as an author and, secondly it was in offer at the time of purchase for 0.99p.

How I Found The  Book …

Initially, when I began to listen to the book on audio version I struggled to focus. Could be the ME. But May also have been the reader. Anyway, once I settled in I couldn’t stop listening. I felt extremely engrossed and felt mad if I fell asleep during the book because I wouldn’t recall where I actually was in the audio. Whereas when reading on the kindle, if I fall asleep, the kindle goes on to standby at the page I fell asleep. The story far exceeded my expectations because I hadn’t read the blurb so had no idea what was coming and of course as I have already said couldn’t get into it at first.

Critical Comments …

I can’t find anything critical as regards the author’s writing style or the lace of the book. But, I wasn’t keen on the readers accent at first. It’s an American accent, the book is set in America, but because I’m British I do prefer a native accent. That said, the storyline took over very quickly and I was gripped.

Lessons To Learn From The Book …

I feel as though I could totally resonate with the behaviour and attitude of Ginny. Her sister riled me and I often wanted to shout or jump down the phone to sort her out. I think that this has taught me that we cannot expect people to know where we are coming from if they’ve not been to the depths of our pains.

Favourites Quotes …

She had sworn to herself three years before that she would never love anyone again. And she sensed that Blue had made the same decision as a little boy when his mother died. And now here they were, two lost souls who had found each other and were swimming toward shore together side by side.

The two form an unusual bond and become the family they each lost.

Why would I be mad at you? You’re the bravest person I know, and you were right to tell her. The only one I’m mad at is Father Teddy. I hope he goes to prison for a long, long time.

My Likes & My Dislikes …

See below …

Book Vs Movie …

This is not a movie yet. But many Danielle Steel stories are made into movies and this would be a tear jerker to add to her catalogue. I would definitely love to see a movie version of this novel.

Final Notes & Recommendation …

I really thoroughly enjoyed this book and will definitely listened to the audio version again (seen as I now own it).

I can definitely recommend the book as it has a great storyline and kept me wanted to participate by urging Ginny on to do something or telling her sister she didn’t know anything about Ginny and her reasons for doing what she did.

I found nothing at all that I didn’t enjoy about the book and so I had to give it a full 10/10 for every area that I score on.

See below for my most important pros and cons in relation to the book.
