Introduction …

As part of ME Awareness 2021, I am fundraising for The ME Trust UK by taking up one of their challenges.

I am going to read 10 books in 10 months and will review each one once I’ve finished it. Below you will find the review for one of the ten books that I read as part of this challenge.

Why …

I have been sick since 1984. It took till 2001 for doctors to diagnose me with ME. Initially, I was mildly sick then moderately but in recent years I’ve progressed to being severely affected. I am housebound and often bedbound for months on end.

I really want to raise awareness and to raise money to help research #endME.

I am planning on reading ten books in ten months starting 12th May, which is international ME Awareness Day. At one time in my life I could have read ten books in ten days. But this challenge will be hard for me to do.

So please please if you can support me and help raise money for the ME Trust UK

ME Awareness Fundraising : Ten Books In Ten Months

#No Filter by Maxine Morrey …

Maxine has wanted to be a writer for as long as she can remember and wrote her first (very short) book for school when she was ten.

As years went by, she continued to write, but ‘normal’ work often got in the way. She has written articles on a variety of subjects, as well as a local history book on Brighton. However, novels are her first love.

In August 2015, she won Harper Collins/Carina UK’s ‘Write Christmas’ competition with her first romantic comedy, ‘Winter’s Fairytale’. Her second, ‘The Christmas Project’ was a top 10 bestseller on the UK Kindle chart.

Maxine lives on the south coast of England, and when not wrangling with words loves to read, sew and listen to podcasts. Being a fan of tea and cake means she can (should!) also be found out on a walk.

Book Synopsis … (taken from book cover, can be skipped ↴)

#No Filter by Maxine Morrey ...

Popular lifestyle blogger, Libby Cartwright, is being boggled by business when help shows up in the shape of gorgeous but shy, Charlie Richmond. Libby’s determined to keep it at ‘just good friends’ – she’s dated someone from ‘Corporate Land’ before and it didn’t end well. As she and Charlie begin spending more time together, Libby is starting to waver  – until she discovers something which makes her question if she’s ready for love.

Still reeling, she suffers another blow as her blog is attacked in a national newspaper, for promoting unachievable perfection. Libby knows it’s not true – but the only way to prove that is to strip off the armour she’s been wearing for years.

Is she brave enough to show the world she’s far from perfect? And will Charlie be by her side if she does…

Book Genre …

#No Filter falls into the Fiction, Humour, Contemporary Romance, genres.

About The Book …

See above in the synopsis for additional information.

As well as the kindle edition I bought the audible version just in case I wasn’t well enough to actually read the book.

The kindle edition has 406 pages and at my reading speed a suggested reading time of 6 hours 49 minutes.

On audible it has a listening time of 14 hours 27 minutes. It is narrated by: Olivia Beardsley who sort of eventually reads quite well, but especially in the beginning her reading almost feels like there’s no flow to it. It actually feels rather staccato, which at first was very distracting. In the end I actually gave up on the book because of the narrator.

If I ever get well enough to read the novel I will update this review.

Why I Chose This  Book …

I choose the book based on the fact that the kindle copy was on offer for £0.99. But, due to severe ill health I ended up buying the audio version and only listened to that over reading the actual book.

How I Found The  Book …

I’m afraid I couldn’t finish it because I wasn’t well enough to read the book and couldn’t listen to the narrator.

Critical Comments …

I’m afraid I couldn’t finish it because I wasn’t well enough to read the book and couldn’t listen to the narrator.

Lessons To Learn From The Book …

Lessons in this book are similar to Morrey’s book my year of saying NO! I previously read last month. Specifically about, not blurring the lines of business and pleasure by having personal relationships with colleagues. Plus, communication saves confusion and sometimes can help save us much heartache.

Favourites Quotes …

you can only find real love by being yourself …

The Internet could be a wonderful thing, but it certainly had its dark side too, allowing people the opportunity to be incredibly unpleasant whilst hiding behind a shield of anonymity.

An optional section, write out your favourite or interesting quotes from the book.

My Likes & My Dislikes …

I like the storyline but the narrator was appealing and I simply couldn’t finish the book.

Book Vs Movie …

Maybe a film would be good.

Final Notes & Recommendation …

I’m afraid I couldn’t finish it because I wasn’t well enough to read the book and couldn’t listen to the narrator.

See below for my most important pros and cons in relation to the book. (I am going to be generous and still score this based on the part that I got to (maybe just under a half a book) and I will base the scores on the storyline not the narrator.
