ME awareness : blue Sunday …

As ME awareness month nears I’d like to support as many of my fellow warriors in their endeavours to raise awareness and funds for ME. Please take a look at ME myself & I ran by Anna. She is hosting the famous blue Sunday, for the 9th year in a row, which she started in 2013 at a time when she was severe and unable to celebrate her own birthday.

‘Blue Sunday’ 2021

Awareness : blue Sunday ...

For the 9th year in a row, I’m hosting my Tea Party For M.E. for people with M.E. and their family and friends. I strongly believe that we need and deserve as dedicated day of fundraising, but also a day where we can come together to mark and celebrate our resilience and our strength in the face of this cruel and life-altering disease.

On Sunday 16th May, people from all over the world will meet up online to chat and leave comments on each other’s posts. While doing so they’ll be enjoying tea and cake (or whatever their delicate digestive systems can manage) and donating what they can to M.E. charities and causes. We are so often excluded from events because our symptoms can make it so difficult for us to leave the house, let alone spend an hour or two at an event. That’s why the Tea Party For M.E. has always had an online/virtual element running alongside any Real Life tea parties.

How to donate

Awareness : blue Sunday ...

How to join in

The premise is simple.

  • Wear something blue (pyjamas count!)
  • Dig out your best cups and saucers
  • Bake or buy your favourite cake
  • Post a photo of you little tea party set-up to social media
  • Invite your family and friends to in person or via video call
  • Donate the price you’d pay in a café
  • Connect with others online who are doing the same
  • Feel a part of my Real Life tea party as I upload photos and videos from the event I host every ‘Blue Sunday’. I am usually joined by over 70 tea party guests! For obvious reasons I have decided to have a much smaller tea party at home again this year, with just my husband.

Join the Facebook event

You can join the Facebook Event page if you have a Facebook account, or simply have a look at everyone’s tea party related photos and videos.

For Twitter and Instagram

On Instagram and Twitter, using the hashtags #BlueSunday2021 and/or #TeaPartyForME2021 will bring up photos and posts by others.

Group video calls & other virtual gatherings

My own health restricts me from hosting an ‘official’ group video call with you all. Maybe one year I will be well enough to try it!

Some people organise their own video calls with friends and family, invite a few of their nearest and dearest over to join them, or even meet up on Nintendo’s Animal Crossing to raise a cup and saucer to all those living with M.E.

My birth name is Denise, but I’m know as Bella to those who love me. I have a first class honours degree in education & psychology and a strong passion to keep learning and educating others ... I have severe ME/CFS and lots of other chronic illnesses and I started this blog as an expansion to my instagram page, where I advocate for chronic illness. I am married and have two grown up boys, or should I say young men. I have three gorgeous grandchildren, one boy and two girls. And despite being chronically sick and housebound I am mostly happy. 🥰
