uncovering ME : objects …

I have started a 52 week course with Daily OM called A Year of Writing to Uncover the Authentic Self and I hope you will join me by reading the posts that are born from this course.

They can be found under the mind * body * soul category as a subcategory entitled ‘uncovering ME …’.

I have wanted to write my own story for such a long time and I have never done it. The reason for this I am sure will be discovered and discussed through the 52 posts to follow.

So please join me …

. . . uncovering ME . . .
. . .  objects  . . .

introduction …

I will be using this space to free write and post my unedited thoughts, words, and scribbles. So, I am sure there may be errors that appear in the text. I do not need you to tell me about these errors as this will all be part of the process and I hope you can look past this.

objects …

Sometimes an object is simply an object, but sometimes certain items can inhabit a much more important space in our hearts.

I invite you to start looking at the objects around you (both in your home and outside of it) and think about the stories they might have to tell. What has that object seen in its lifetime? If you can’t immediately see or touch an object that brings a story to mind, think about objects you used to have, or even imagine what a particular object might mean to someone and why.

Questions/Prompts to Guide Your Writing:

look around at your belongings until you find something that sparks a strong memory (a family heirloom, a phone that delivered unexpected news, a piece of clothing that you purchased for a special night) …

tell the story …

I found a sketch of my boy_1 when he was a toddler and I recalled his beautiful curly head bobbing around in his happy little body. He was such a sweet endearing child.

is there an important object from your past that you don’t have anymore …

what memories does it trigger …

Jewellery from my love and from my mother, and both grandparents. I got rid of it in emotion, sometimes in necessity because I needed money, and often in haste and wish I still had it.

what was your most prized possession as a kid …

why did you love it …

My green bicycle …

what is your most prized possession now …

why is it so special …

My health, that I no longer have …

if your residence were on fire, what would you make sure not to leave behind …

My pain medications …

what objects do you use to enhance your life (maybe you use an antique teacup instead of a plain old mug, or have a collection of your favorite books, or perhaps a travel memento) …

what is it about the object that makes it special … how does it make you feel …

I have a special cup for everything … and they are usually pink. I customise, or personalise, everything so it reflects me.

pink … floraly … girly … pretty …

attempt to write a short essay from a special objects point of view …

what is that item’s life story …

I am so loved …

… without health, life is not life; …
… it is only a state of languor …
… and suffering-an image of death …
… François Rabelais …

in summary & in conclusion …

… without health nothing is possible …

… with health anything is possible …

The Essay : objects …

Still too poorly to write anything of value here except to say that my pain medications are my saviour …

… the end …

My birth name is Denise, but I’m know as Bella to those who love me. I have a first class honours degree in education & psychology and a strong passion to keep learning and educating others ... I have severe ME/CFS and lots of other chronic illnesses and I started this blog as an expansion to my instagram page, where I advocate for chronic illness. I am married and have two grown up boys, or should I say young men. I have three gorgeous grandchildren, one boy and two girls. And despite being chronically sick and housebound I am mostly happy. 🥰
